From the 8th of June 2015 the paper counterpart of the driving licence will no longer be valid and the DVSA will stop issuing the counterpart. You will still need to provide proof to your instructor that you are legally eligible to drive on your first lesson. To do this you will need a printout of your licence details or supply an access code to your instructor to view your details on Gov UK website.
